The mean of the two duplicate runs was used to categorise the sample as seropositive or seronegative using a cut-off for the S/P coefficient suggested by the manufacturer together with the kit (≥ 60% for the ID Screen® ELISA, and > 37% for the BIO K302 ELISA). Serum samples originated from cattle populations where M. bovis is known to be prevalent (the high-prevalence area: Finland, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom) and from a cattle population which was considered highly unlikely to have been exposed to M. bovis (the low-prevalence area: northern Sweden)
