Note that rabies viral antigen and RNA in one paralytic dog (dark blue column) was found exclusively in the spinal cord. RABV RNA is expressed in copies/μg total RNA × 108. RABV = rabies virus; Ag = Antigen; SP = spinal cord; BS = brainstem; CBL = cerebellum; CTH = caudate, thalamus, and hippocampus; and CB = cerebrum. No spinal cord tissue was available for paralytic rabies cases # 3 and 5 and furious rabies cases # 1 and 2 (refer to SP bars).
