Histologic evaluation of representative equine small intestinal jejunum following delayed tissue storage. Tissue was processed immediately after collection or stored in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and refrigerated at 4 °C for 24, 48 or 72 h (H). The epithelium remains largely intact following 24H of storage. Loss of the villus epithelium and villus sloughing is apparent at longer storage times. Scale bar inset 50 μm. n = 2–3.
