Timeline of Sample Collection for Mallards and Blue-winged Teals. Experimental groups are designated by species (M = mallard, B = blue-winged teal), infection status (T = LPAIV treatment/inoculation with LPAIV H5N9, C = control/sham-inoculated), and day post infection (DPI) the group of birds was sacrificed. Two mm sections of bursa of Fabricius tissue and ileum tissue were collected from each bird on the DPI of sacrifice.
