Scanning electron microscopic morphology of: a = untreated E. coli cells (negative control) after 24 h (cells are clustered and have normal short rod shape and size.), b = solvent control after 24 h (cells are clustered and have normal short rod shape and size), c = E. coli cells after 24 h exposure to 1 μg/mL gentamicin (many of the cells are normal with a few cells having rough or wrinkled surfaces and protrusions), d = E. coli cells after 3 h exposure to 0.04 mg/mL extract of Syzygium legatii (cells have rough or wrinkled surfaces, altered shape, cavitations and cracks), e = E. coli cells after 3-h exposure to extract of Eugenia zeyheri (cells are wrinkled, shrunken and rough with cavitations)
