mRNA expression of central factors implicated in regulating extracellular matrix remodeling in the necrotic and salvaged myocardium isolated one week and one month after coronary reperfusion. The gene expression of metalloproteinase (MMP)2 (a), MMP9 (b), MMP14 (c), MMP16 (d), tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP)1 (e), TIMP2 (f), TIMP3 (g) as well as the transcription factors tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α (h), transforming growth factor (TGF)-β (i), and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF, j) was assessed in the necrotic and salvaged myocardium from the 1-week and 1-month reperfusion groups and was compared to control group. Data (mean ± SD, n ≥ 5) were analysed by one-way ANOVA analysis followed by Bonferroni test. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01 vs. control group
