Possible

A dog with a history of chronic regurgitation ± clinical evidence of aspiration pneumonia.

Probable

Evidence of oesophageal dilatation on thoracic radiographs ± evidence of aspiration pneumonia; and

Negative anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody assay.

Confirmed

Evidence of oesophageal dilation on thoracic radiographs (without sedation) or fluoroscopic swallowing study ± evidence of aspiration pneumonia; and

Negative anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody assay; and

Normal baseline cortisol/ACTH stimulation test; and

Normal thyroid function.
