Bacterial competitive colonization and virulence analysis in vivo. a The competitive test was carried out to compare the colonization between wild-type and mutant strains in mouse infection model. The bacterial loads of mutant strains were decreased by approximately two- or three-fold in comparison with the wild-type strain in blood after intraperitoneal challenge for 10 h, ** P < 0.01 and *** P < 0.001. b Survival curves of BALB/c mice infected with wild-type or mutant strains. Six-week-old female BALB/c mice were segregated into three groups and inoculated i.p. with 2.6 × 107 cells/mouse.
