Histopathology of canine vitiligo. In a skin biopsy from the face, lymphocytes infiltrate the basal layer of the epidermis (arrow heads) in very low numbers at the junction of depigmented and non-depigmented epidermis. Melanin containing macrophages are present in low numbers in the superficial dermis (arrow) and are accompanied by a very mild, mononuclear, perivascular, inflammatory cell infiltrate. The epidermal architecture is not significantly altered. Hematoxylin and eosin. 200X
