The dark gray area represents the location of spatial cluster as identified by a generalized additive model based on logistic regression with a smooth bivariate function of x and y coordinates on a 2 × 2-km grid of the southern Ontario study area. The two circles represent the most likely spatial and spatio-temporal cluster detected, using a purely spatial scan statistic and a space-time permutation model, respectively.
