Gcl = ganglion cell layer, ipl = inner plexiform layer, inl = inner nuclear layer, opl = outer plexifom layer, onl = outer nuclear layer, prs = photoreceptors. Right side: Marked to slight granular PrPSc accumulation (dark brown color) in inner and outer plexiform layers, small amount of granular deposits within the rod and cone layer and ganglion cell layer are visible. No positive staining can be discerned in the inner and outer nuclear layers or in the nerve fibre layer. Immunohistochemistry, mab 34c9, 40× objective.
